design

At KUNG architecture we believe that “architecture is an art of shaping the environment”. Our design philosophy is based on a quality of space and experience that it provides. Whether designing a large urban space off a street or a park, or an intimate setting of home breakfast nook, the same attention is given to how the space makes us feel. The places that we occupy every day have a unique effect on our well-being.

The elements that contribute to the quality of space are its proportions and scale, functionality, location in relationship to other spaces, and color and texture. Through thousands of years of evolution human beings developed the need for shelter and a definition of what a shelter means. The element of human scale is also strongly engraved in our brains. The spaces that lack definition or feel too constrained make us feel uncomfortable. We can sense immediately when the ceiling is too low in a large space, when a cabinet is too tall to reach, when a street is too wide to cross on foot, or if a car is going too fast through a neighborhood street.

The quality of architecture that surrounds us has a large effect on our productivity, ability to relax, ability to engage with neighbors, and quality of life.
